China Vegan Society signs agreement with IGSC from South Korea

China Vegan Society signs agreement with IGSC from South Korea to build an international sustainable path for vegan certification.

The Institute of Global Sustainability Certificate (IGSC), established in 2022 and accredited by ISO 23662*, officially signed the Vegan Certification Alliance Agreement and Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) with China Vegan Society in February 2024.

*The ISO released a new standard, ISO 23662, in March 2021, titled "Definitions and technical criteria for foods and food ingredients suitable for vegetarians or vegans and for labelling and claims." This standard specifies the technical requirements for foods and food ingredients suitable for vegetarians (including lacto-ovo vegetarians, ovo-vegetarians, and lacto-vegetarians) or strict vegans, as well as the technical requirements for food labeling and claims. https://www.iso.org/standard/76574.html

This initiative has also garnered widespread attention and coverage within the industry in South Korea.

The main contents of this mutual recognition agreement are as follows:

△ Mutual recognition between the Institute of Global Sustainability Certificate in South Korea and China Vegan Society regarding vegan certification.

△ Simplified certification assessment procedures.

△ Providing preferential policies for enterprises applying for certifications in multiple countries.

△ Sharing, supporting, and promoting education, forums, and research related to veganism.

In short, for enterprises that have obtained the vegan certification from China Vegan Society domestically and expanded their international business, they can more easily obtain certifications from national or regional levels to participate in multi-country alliances.

The official from the Institute of Global Sustainability Certificate in South Korea stated, "With the continuously growing global demand for vegan products, we are pleased to promote vegan certification through this agreement." He further added, "In the future, we will continue to establish international vegan agreements on a global scale."

China Vegan Society will continue to strive towards jointly establishing a global Vegan certification alliance and welcomes the participation of more countries.

Our ultimate goal is to promote mutual recognition of Vegan certifications among countries, establish a global standard system to ensure the quality and reliability of vegan products, and collectively advocate for the promotion of healthy, environmentally friendly, and ethical lifestyles.
