Frequently Asked Questions
About Us
Is the China Vegan Society affiliated with any religious organization?
No, the China Vegan Society is not affiliated with any religious organization. We advocate a science-based approach to vegan advocacy that is not influenced by any religious or political affiliation.
What is China Vegan Society’s response to Buddhist “mercy release” (放生) activities?
Studies show that mercy release activities have a negative impact on both animals and the ecosystem, and we are therefore opposed to this practice. In fact, we even have an initiative to educate the public about the dangers of mercy release and provide more ethical and sustainable ways to protect animals.
How does China Vegan Society advocate for animals?
The China Vegan Society’s goal at this point is to raise awareness about animal rights and the importance of respecting them. In our advocacy activities, rather than focusing on human health as the key benefit of veganism, we emphasize animal welfare and environmental sustainability in our media and positioning. We publicize domestic animal rights issues and translate international news articles about animal rights controversies and legislation to share on our domestic media channels. The China Vegan Society does not directly intervene in animal exploitation cases or engage in direct protest against industry practices that exploit animals.
What is China Vegan Society’s long-term goal?
Our long-term goal is to help China reduce its overall animal product consumption by 30% before the year 2030, and to establish policies that make these reductions permanent. We will achieve this by influencing consumer behavior, empowering providers of vegan alternatives, and helping institutions and governments to create health and sustainability policies that leverage a plant-based approach.
Is China Vegan Society a business, a social enterprise, or a nonprofit?
The China Vegan Society is a registered nonprofit.
