We’ve Launched!
Hello, world!
We are the China Vegan Society, China’s first nation-wide, publicly-funded vegan advocacy platform.
Our team of eight longtime vegan activists got together in March, 2021 to solve a common problem: our current meat-based food system is unsustainable, but the resources to create change are scattered across too many platforms. To get results, we need to share resources and work together to reach more people faster.
With the help of our friends, colleagues, supporters, and countless cups of coffee and tea, we’ve put together an ambitious action plan to make veganism mainstream in China. Now it’s May, our launch party is in two days, and we’re super excited to share our plan with you all!
Why did we launch the China Vegan Society?
Up until now, China has never had a central hub for sharing vegan news, knowledge, and resources.
All of CVS’s eight founders had been advocating veganism, animal welfare, and environmental protection for years in Beijing, Shanghai, Yunnan, and Hangzhou. But they all found their impact was limited to their local regions and communities. Although China has thousands of clubs, organizations, blogs, and businesses dedicated to promoting plant-based lifestyles, these tend to be only informally connected via personal and professional networks.
As a result, valuable resources are scattered across disconnected platforms, leaving activists and businesses struggling to gather information, search for collaborators, and promote themselves to audiences.
What this ultimately means is that our impact is limited, our energy is being wasted, and animal product consumption continues increasing year over year, with devastating impacts on the environment and animal welfare.
Studies show that choosing plant-based foods instead of animal products is one of the simplest and most effective things we can do to reduce our individual environmental impact. If this is spread across a whole population, the impact is massive.
We’re here to make it easy for China to go vegan.
So who are we, exactly?
The China Vegan Society operates under the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation. We are China's first national public welfare foundation dedicated to promoting plant-based diets and growing the vegan community.
Our goal is to unite individuals, businesses, and organizations across the country, promote exchange between domestic and foreign vegan institutions, and promote veganism in a way that aligns with Chinese lifestyles and culture.
Ok, and how do we plan to do all that?
We want to create a one-stop platform providing services, education, and knowledge products that help people and organizations in China to adopt a plant-based diet and/or promote veganism to their constituents. Our initiatives range from simple media campaigns (blog posts, online challenges, how-to videos, etc) to education programs, conferences, business services, and policy development.
For more information about these and other programs, please check out our Initiatives page.
By the way, every time we roll out a new initiative or have any other exciting news to share, we send an email to our subscribers. If you’d like to get updates on our progress, click here to subscribe! (Don’t worry, we promise not to spam you!)
